Reflections of Creation

One of the greatest things that God has given humans is the ability to see beauty in the world around us. I have never noticed my dog stop and stare at the beauty of a forest or the incredible colors of a sunset, but these things have the ability to stop me in my tracks in wonder and awe. This website is my attempt to capture some of the beauty and glory of an indescribable God by capturing reflections of Him that I see in His creation.

This is straight off of the camera (except resized). This is underexposed by 1.3 stops (since that's where sis-in-law has her camera set). This gave the added bonus of colors really popping.

A Christmas Eve bonus for Christi Wednesday, December 24, 2008 | 1

Since I love my sister, I took a new picture for her. :-)

Okay, I'll tell the truth, I forgot my camera yesterday when Alison and I came to my parents for Christmas. Since I had planned on taking a bunch of pictures and have two tripods here, Kara offered to lend me one. I needed to see if her camera took the same raw format as mine, so I took one picture. Since I am about to delete it from the camera, I decided to go ahead and show you guys since it turned out okay.

dumpster art Wednesday, December 24, 2008 | 4

Since I posted something yesterday that most people would think is beautiful, here's something with it's own kind of beauty - rusted dumpster painting. Hmmm. Things get better everyday here, don't they?

proof Tuesday, December 23, 2008 | 15

If you follow Alison's blog, you know that last week she lamented the fact that our Christmas tree(s) was not up yet this year (in a post entitled O Tannenbaum - click this sentence to go to her blog). Granted she did talk about how God used that in her life, so you should go check it out if you haven't yet.

Well, here's proof that the tree(s) is up and it is officially Christmastime at the Bryant's (although I have been listening to Christmas music since October whenever Alison wasn't around).

I know I've mentioned this before, but going through Tracy Arm Fjord on our cruise was one of the best parts of the cruise. Ali and I loved being able to see incredible scenery, and what amazed me was the diverse colors found all throughout the fjord, not on the trees but on the rocks themselves. Here's an example; look at the black streaks on this mountainside. I don't know how far we traveled with these black streaks, but I bet it was several miles.

Here is also a quick rehashing from other pictures in the fjord that I've already posted:

Incredible colored shoreline

Snowy barren mountaintops

Mendenhall Glacier Tuesday, December 16, 2008 | 3

As promised, here are some views of Mendenhall Glacier outside of Juneau, Alaska. Alison and I got to spend a couple of hours here while we were on our Alaska cruise, and this is something to see. All of these pictures are straight off of the camera with no altering or color enhancing. I don't have the saturation raised on the camera.

IMG_1558

Pictures can't really capture how huge this giant chunk of ice is, so here is a picture with people along the shoreline so you can compare their size to the size of the front face of this giant hunk of ice. The blue you see in places is where parts of the glacier had recently broke off. That blue color is natural to glaciers. It has something to do with the refraction of light through the special crystalline structure you find only in glaciers. God is really creative!

I hope everyone gets a chance to see a glacier in person and see how amazing God has made these things. When you travel through a glacier carved valley, it is astounding to look up on either side of you and just see mountains climbing up. While traveling through Tracy Arm Fjord (not where this glacier is found), I was floored knowing that this deep valley was caused by ice grinding away any obstacles in it's path. It was really remarkable, and a BIG reminder to me of just how big GOD is.

reflections of creation Saturday, December 13, 2008 | 4

I have posted both of these pictures ago, but it was before I even told anybody about this blog. Now it's exactly 300 posts later (I didn't realize that until creating this post), and I think this is still one of my favorite posts. These two pictures were taken in south Fort Worth while walking around Pecan Valley Park. I took the winter picture first, and then went back in summer. While walking around, I saw this branch and instantly thought of that picture I had taken before. I tried to duplicate it from my memory, and I'm happy with how they turned out together.

I love how God sends me gentle reminders of Him in every season. I love the reminder that He is there to refresh and regrow me after a dark winter. I love the reminder that even in the desolate and cold days, there is color and beauty not found any other time. God, I love these little reminders of You. Thanks.

a cool morning Friday, December 12, 2008 | 2

I think I posted a very similar picture about six months ago, also from this same morning in Juneau. Since I exposed this one differently, I'm going to post it anyway. It's my blog and I can do what I want to.

a funny nativity story Saturday, December 06, 2008 | 5

There are three things you should know about today's picture.

1) Our Christmas decorations are not up yet, but I wanted to take some sort of Christmas picture tonight, so I pulled this out. No decorations up yet: strike one.

2) When I opened up the nativity set, we apparently have had a nativity scene angel rapture. I
jokingly thought, "God removed His representative because He does not want me to take pictures of this." Strike two.

3) I decided to keep batting though, and set up our nativity (sans angel of course). We have a stable with this nativity set, and I put one one of these candles right up to the edge of it to give some light to Mary's face. Guess what? I caught the moss on the roof of the stable on fire. So, we didn't have an angel, but we did have a flaming star of Bethlehem.

The stable is fine with no real damage to anything, but I hoped you'd find this story as hilarious as I do.

hmmm...an ocean sunset we've seen before (if you read this blog in May that is) Friday, December 05, 2008 | 3

Way back on post #150, I posted a picture of this sunset. Here is a vertical shot of it, and I also changed the color saturation on the camera when I took this one. I hate rehashing picture subjects, but I really need to go take more pictures. I hope to go out soon and get some Christmas light shots.

daisy...err max...picture by Kara Wednesday, December 03, 2008 | 1

"All I need is a reindeer..." The Grinch looked around.
But, since reindeer are scarce, there was none to be found.
Did that stop the old Grinch? No! The Grinch simply said,
"If I can't find a reindeer, I'll make one instead!"
So he called his dog, Max. Then he took some red thread,
And he tied a big horn on the top of his head.

Reflections of Creation

the most important part of this website

I enjoy photography and I always find myself wanting more time to be outside with a camera. The idea of posting my pictures was born out of the love for my wife, Alison (alisonbryantwrites.com), who hates it when I do not take my days off. This website, reflections of creation, is a way to force me to get out of the office from time to time and putting me outside where I love to be. While a creative outlet for me, I hope this is an encouraging site for you, and one which helps point you to the Creator of all this beauty around us. God is so much bigger and amazing than we could ever imagine, and He loves you and me! What an amazing thought! He loves us so much that He was even willing to let His son, Jesus, die as a sacrifice for us. That fact is more beautiful than any picture you will see on this website. I hope you know Jesus, but if you do not, please email me or go to www.needHim.org. Thanks again for coming and stop by again soon.
