One of the greatest things that God has given humans is the ability to see beauty in the world around us. I have never noticed my dog stop and stare at the beauty of a forest or the incredible colors of a sunset, but these things have the ability to stop me in my tracks in wonder and awe. This website is my attempt to capture some of the beauty and glory of an indescribable God by capturing reflections of Him that I see in His creation.
Wow what a gorgeous angle you got on this shot! I have been in that cemetery several times taking photos and never thought about going back towards the cathedral. smiles...
I agree, it's a great shot, almost melancholy. It is a little bittersweet, though. I have mixed emotions about that cemetery. It was beautiful with the fall colors and crisp air, but it reminds me of that tombstone of the little 9-yr.-old girl and how she passed away. Wow...way to depress myself and those reading this!
...Ah, but the smell of the baking potatoes in the air all over town that day and lunch at Harriet's was wonderful...
Alison, I was thinking that exact same thing...I can't think about that cemetery without thinking about that little girl. I have a photo of her headstone...so sad.
Awwww, I miss Harriet's. yum! smiles...
So that everyone know what we're talking about here:
There was a nine year girl, Mary Haselton, who died in 1785 when she was struck by lightning and killed while praying. I tried to find the text from her tombstone online, but I didn't have any luck. I'll have to get it off of a picture of it at the house.
Wouldn't you know that I'd find it as soon as I posted.
I. H. S.
Here lies interred the Body of
Mary Haselton,
A young Maiden of this Town,
Born of Roman Catholic Parents,
And virtuously brought up,
Who, being in the act of Prayer,
Repeating her Vespers,
Was instantaneously killed by a flash
of lightning, August 16, 1785,
Aged 9 years.
